In the Coldness

Holding your sweet scent, the blankets warm me as I wrap myself in thoughts of you.

The Tumbleweed’s Lament

Cold eyes. Guns at the ready. Bell in the tower chimes. Heaven. Hell. Collide.

Over the Garden Wall

In the garden of Spring's eternal youth, light kisses take flight. A soft butterfly flitting from my lips to yours.

Domestic Bliss

Ripping the searing iron away from his face she hisses, "Next time lift the seat!”

Canonized by Smith & Wesson

Bible remains in the grip of your tainted hands. Your spirit leaves your body through the open wounds. The chalk around your body begins to glow like a halo.

Inside the Golden Goose

As she turned the knife again he began to speak the words that she had long been waiting to hear,

"I love...”

Lesson Learned

Swinging in the breeze he realizes only too late that crime doesn’t pay.

Where’s Frost When You Need Him?

Standing at the crossroads in the sand, I ponder, "Which is the path less traveled?" The wind blows again.

Closer Than Distance

As we snuggle alone in our beds the distance is removed by the telephone line.

Second Chance Lightning

“Do you remember what I told you ‘bout ever falling in love again?"

"Yes," she replied.

"The devil’s ice skating.”

The Un-Lost Treasure

While rummaging through a box of dusty relics I came upon my virginity. Strangely it still fit perfectly.

With No Second Helpings

When I requested steak for dinner I didn't anticipate her serving it through my heart.

Late Night Call

The telephone rang at 2:57am.

“I miss you,” a soft voice spoke.

“Uh-huh.”

“Don’t you miss me?” she pleaded for an answer.

“Of course.”

“I need to see you,” her tear-stained lips said.

“Tomorrow?”

“I love you.”  Desperation leapt in, “Do you love me?”

“Yeah.  Talk to you later.”

Receiver on the cradle, the room quiet, she asks who it was.

“My brother.  He’s drunk again.”

Happy Anniversary

I watch you while you’re sleeping.  With the moon reflecting on your face you resemble a ghost of your former self, the woman that I had fallen in love with so many years ago.  Before you had killed me.

Saying Goodbye

She greets me with a kiss and asks where I'd like to go tonight.

"She's pregnant," I reply.

She Wants to Love Me

There is a crackling flash and an electric scent to her approach.  Her eyes, yellow orbs of light, pierce the darkness where I lay.  Bolts of static discharge from her fingertips igniting my sleeping nerves with life.  It is time to wake.  She wants to love me.  And it scares me to death.

From Afar

She sat quietly peering out the window for her familiar stranger.  They were to meet at six.  Is it quarter past.  She’s not one to concern herself with fifteen minutes, but her eyes continue to dart to the window at each passing blur.

Their conversations had been full of hope and adventure.  At last they decided to meet to place a face to the voice.

She’s glanced over at me twice already, but I just don’t have the guts to finally say hello in person.

A Good Fight

I can no longer raise my hands, taped and buried snug in the thickness of my father’s stained gloves, my arms straining with fatigue.

“It was a good fight,” a voice repeats.  “You put up a good fight.”

I try to focus, but the words are lost in my swirling world of nausea.

On a stage where he had once reigned, my curtain closes.  It is far easier to fit in his gloves than his shoes.

The Medicinal Approach

I hid cowering in the corner, biting my lips to keep my mouth closed as tight as possible.

He approached cautiously, crooked grin smeared across his face.  “It’s time for your medicine.”
